Gabor’s Chocolate Factory
An innovative shop in the Hungarian capital offers the finest chocolates, tailor-made just the way you like it

"Why shouldn’t I create my own chocolate according to my own taste, right in the same way as I could order a pizza only with those toppings that I liked?" declares Gabor Meszaros, the owner and founder of chocoMe, a gourmet chocolatier shop in Budapest.
Meszaros has realized a very decadent dream: establishing himself as a sagacious gourmet of cacao. Even as a child, he daydreamed of being a renowned chocolatier. Upon reaching adulthood, Meszaros began to revolutionize the Hungarian chocolate industry by endowing it with both quality and experimental technology.
"In order to improve my process of making the finest chocolates, I enrolled in the Chocolate Academy of Callebaut, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolates, and there I had the opportunity to learn the secrets from the greatest chocolatier experts," notes Meszaros.
This Hungarian chocolatier offers something very exceptional to his customers – choice (and lots of it). When ordering, chocolate lovers can pick and choose among hundreds of toppings they wish to savor on top of their chocolate bar. These toppings range from spices, like cardamom and chili, Hawaiian or French sea salts imbued in red wine, to first class Sicilian pistachios from Bronte, a variety of sugarcoated flower petals, shredded 23-carat gold… the list goes on. Meszaros’s craftsmanship is meticulous and time consuming, delicately working the chocolate batter so that it reaches its ideal state and temperature.
Meszaros’s dark, milk and white chocolates contain no additives or margarine. They are the finest blends of Ecuadorian Arriba cocoa beans, typically red in color. Arriba cocoa beans grow exclusively close to the equator, high up in the Andes Mountains. Due to the combination of a unique climate and rich soil, the beans have a highly distinctive taste and aroma.
The Fortina Finest Selection dark chocolate has 65.1%cocoa content. When tasting it, one first feels a dominant cocoa essence with tinges of bitter sweetness. The exquisite bouquet of cinnamon, ginger and Bourbon vanilla amalgamate harmoniously with the sour nectar of the fruits that cover the chocolate’s surface.
The Arriba milk chocolate contains 39% cocoa content. It has an intense body with plenty of creaminess, milk, nuts and fruits, even revealing subtle hints of exotic herbs and spices.
Many don’t know, but thankfully, chocolate contains many of the health benefits found in dark vegetables. These benefits come from flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. In fact, dark chocolate contains nearly eight times the number of antioxidants found in strawberries.
Given these facts, there is really no excuse for not indulging in what chocoMe has to offer. With exciting combinations like dark chocolate with basil, rose pepper and strawberry slices, Mezaro is well on his way to achieving his goal of discovering "the secrets of creating the perfect bar of chocolate."
So, next time you’re in Budapest, go ahead and indulge!
