Anonymous strikes again

In early October, hackers from AnonAustria published the names and contact details of 6,200 customers of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO) via a link on Twitter.

The affected branch, the association of real estate trustees, confirmed that the data stemmed from its online mail-order system, while stating that "no sensitive information" had been taken.

The incident is the latest in a string of hacks by AnonAustria this year, most prominently the publication of the names and addresses of 25,000 active and retired police officers taken from a police-affiliated association in September.

AnonAustria is the Austrian chapter of Anonymous, a loose collective of internet activists known for its spontaneous actions against data-collection by companies and states and in support of freedom of expression on the internet.
