Slovakia Says No to Greece

The Slovak parliament voted to withhold its contribution to the eurozone’s bailout fund for Greece. In a landslide 69-1 vote, with 14 abstentions, the  parliament refused to lend €816 million, Bloomberg reports.

"[The decision] is based on values," Prime Minister Iveta Radicova of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union Party (SDKÚ-DS) said to the Financial Times. "The problem is for those countries which behaved irresponsibly, who did not behave according to the treaty and according to the stability pact."

Earlier this year, eurozone member states agreed to lend Greece €80 billion, adding to a €30-billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Experts believe that Slovakia’s share is small enough not to affect the rescue package, unless the refusal undermines the resolve of other member states.
