For four weeks, an unknown "sniper" has been using an air rifle to shoot at pedestrians across Vienna, triggering widespread fear and commentary in the media.
Twenty-one victims have so far reported to the police, most of them sustaining only bruises, while one victim, an off-duty police officer, needed an emergency operation as the 4.5mm projectile lodged in his neck.
So far, the police has scant clues about the culprit’s identity or any pattern to his attacks, but has announced a €22,000 reward for any information leading to the case’s resolution.
