1.2-metre-wide house unveiled in Warsaw

Part work of art, part place of residence, architect Jakub Szczesny has completed a two-story aluminum house wedged between two modern apartment blocks in the Polish capital, and welcomed its first tenant.

Funded by the Foundation of Polish Modern Art and the Warsaw City Hall, the 10m-deep and 9m-high building measures a mere 1.2m in width, but is completely furnished with a kitchen, toilet and shower, a table for two, a nearly double-sized bed, and a bean bag sofa.

Israeli writer Etgar Keret will be the structure’s first tenant, now nicknamed the Keret House, but will only reside in it during his two visits to Warsaw a year. The house will be open for other tenants to try out for free the rest of the year.
