A Polish Fest Fit for an Empress

Don’t miss the last two nights of Joseph Beer’s operetta Polnische Hochzeit (Polish Wedding), a delightful tale set in 1830 Poland featuring clever schemes, uplifting music, and witty dialogue. With libretto by Fitz Löhner-Beda and Alfred Grünwald, the operetta was first performed in Zurich in 1937. Though Nazis stopped the planned Austrian performance in 1938, the Wiener Operettensommer is now staging the operetta as part of its open-air summer festival at the grotto on the grounds of the 17th-century Theresianum. The Austrian premiere stars Patricia Nessy (soprano), Christian Bauer (tenor), and Robert Lillinger (piano). Before the show, you can buy picnic baskets or enjoy dinner in the park.
