New stage for the Choir Boys
In Brief, Stage: Dec. 2012/Jan. 2013
Dec 08, 2012
Beginning this December, the world-famous Vienna Boys’ Choir, for singers between the ages of 10 and 14, will be performing in their new concert hall, called MuTh, which stands for "Musik & Theater".
It was designed as a multi-purpose structure: In addition to the concert hall, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, it also houses a rehearsal room and a music and theatre centre for children and young people. It is right next to the school and Sängerknaben dormitories in the Baroque Augartenpalais, where the choir has been accommodated since 1948.
The design for the concert hall is by Archipel Architektur + Kommunikation, integrating the historical walls of the Augarten and combining it with contemporary design, using concrete, metal and glass. The concert hall will open on 9 Dec., with a concert of the Philharmonic and the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
