Ryanair slashes flights to Budapest

Budget airline Ryanair announced plans to reduce service at Budapest Airport  from 30 lines to 20, citing a rise in airport fees.

The move is the latest blow for the airport, in the wake of the demise of Hungarian national carrier Malev last February, and of the closure of Terminal 1 last May due to low passenger numbers. It reopened last October as an events facility.

Effective 13 Jan. 2013, Ryanair’s reduction of the ten routes means 800 jobs and 800,000 passengers will be lost, according to an airline press release.

The cities affected are Baden, Birmingham, Bologna, Düsseldorf, Krakow, Lübeck, Malaga, Munich, Oslo and Thessaloniki.
