Theory Meets Practice with Media Activism

 

Media Activism is a series of events organised by the University of Vienna’s department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies. The events explore the relationship between media theory and media practice. How does contemporary media shape our world-view? How have technological advances changed the way modern media works?

Once a year, protagonists and antagonists from the artistic and political realms of media activism are invited to share their views, research and experiences.

This year, as part of the European Month of Photography, two experts will give their insights, in parts three and four of the English-lecture series. Carole Naggar will present "Lives of Chim" at WestLicht on 7 November, and Fred Ritchin appears with "Meaningful Media: Strategies for Social Change" on 8 Nov.

Carole Naggar is a poet, artist and photography historian, currently at work on a biography of David Seymour Chim, whose work is to be celebrated at this event.

Fred Ritchin, professor of Photography & Imaging at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, asks us to consider the digital revolution and the ways in which it shapes our interpretations of the world.
