These are questions asked by Wendy Williams in her recent book The Globalisation of Love. Looking at the growing trend of multinational, multicultural relationships, she examines language, food, humour, pets and other culture clashes facing couples from different corners of the globe.

Through interviews and insights into her own family life, we see multicultural romance through the eyes of a Canadian expat married to an Austrian.

THE SCHUBERT CONNECTION

Mary Locke’s book unveils itself against the scenery of contemporary Vienna. Locke’s main character Lily Lindstrom finds more than she expected in her search for a lost love song by Austria’s Franz Schubert.

As an assistant music history professor, she is sent to Vienna to teach, but instead, Lily has to deal with her attraction to an American doctor, a group of shady Hungarians and a neighbour with a fondness for plum brandy.

The Schubert Connection is a light-hearted concoction of music, history and crime that introduces the city to foreigners while uncovering new sides that might have been unknown to many a Viennese.
