Czech brewer Budějovický Budvar has won a U.K. court appeal, defending its right to market its beer as Budweiser in Britain.

Anheuser-Busch, the U.S.-based brewer of Budweiser "The King of Beers", had contested the 14 Jul 2012 verdict to dismiss the Budweiser trademark registered in the U.K. by the Czech brewer.

"The coexistence of the trademarks in any country must be considered a serious and everlasting threat for our intellectual property," stated Budvar CEO Jiři Boček on the company's website.

The century-old rivalry has produced countless lawsuits, with the brewer based in České Budějovice (known as Budweis in German) winning 88 of the past 124 cases, according to the Budvar website.
