China Meets Austria at the Musikverein

"China Meets Austria" at the Musikverein is a night of symphonies, part of the greater Chinese Spring Festival, which aims to foster cultural connections between the young generations of the two countries.

A mix of Chinese and Austrian musicians and orchestras will perform, including youth groups. Highlights of the eclectic programme include "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Peer Gynt, "Radetzky March", selections from Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Pachelbel and Brahms, and even a rendition of Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Only a few of the pieces performed are Chinese in origin, including "Presenting the victory to the emperor", "In a place far, far away" and "The butterfly lovers".

The Festival runs from 30 January through 6 February in Vienna and consists of a series of musical and theatrical performances, film screenings and a cultural forum. The events are intended to provide an atmosphere for celebrating both countries’ love of the arts, and an opportunity for participants to share talent and knowledge.
