We’ve all been there: It’s date night, and your usual smoke-filled bar full of rowdy regulars doesn’t scream romance. Neither does the restaurant around the corner, a place you’ve been so often the server doesn’t even ask for your order; he just nods and brings you "the usual".

But it doesn’t have to be this predictable. You can break free of the Date Night Doldrums with any of several exceptional offers in and around Vienna.

In for the kill

For the closet Sherlock Holmes, Dinner & Crime might be right up your dark alley. Murder comes in many forms and Dinner & Crime offers up seven different stories challenging the audience to solve the mystery and bring the killer(s) to justice at the end of the meal. Creativity is rewarded, as each mystery has more than one potential outcome, and the team with the best solution wins a prize. Grab your Dr. Watson or Irene Adler and help bring justice to the night’s misadventures.

The posh pub quiz

Feel like flexing some mental muscle to impress your significant other, why not check out ExQUIZit. Think pub quiz with a four-course gourmet feast. The staff provide the final ingredient to the night’s menu with the "Chef de Quizine", "Maitresse de Plaisir" and "Garcon Frederic" attending to all your culinary needs and perhaps offering a hint or two on the tougher questions. With alternating monthly menus and multiple event locations you’ll never have the same date twice.

Nostalgia for times of old

And if you’ve had it with modern angst in this city of Freud, take a trip back in time to the Middle Ages. At Camelot Restaurant you’ll be transported to an age when men jousted to prove their bravery, and princesses weren’t just the stuff of Disney movies. With a no-forks-allowed policy, guests are encouraged to eat with their hands as they enjoy a two-to-three-hour programme every Friday and Saturday night, featuring a rotating cast.

Not seeing is believing

And then there’s what one might call sci-fi flirtation, a true fourth dimension where you can find out what dating would be if looks truly didn’t matter. This is Dinner in the Dark at Vier Sinne, where guests experience their food, and of course each other, in a completely light-less environment. After a champagne greeting, diners are escorted to their table by the blind wait-staff and instructed on the layout of their table.

A delicious four-course meal follows with activities between each course to encourage guests to develop their other senses – giving new meaning to the term "blind date".
