Festival Summer ends

The end of the heat brings with it the end of the summer festivals all over the country. Organisers are now assessing their success.

The Bregenz Festival sold 259,425 tickets for 80 performances. Most of the visitors saw Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte on the famous Seebühne by the Bodensee, making it the most popular opera in the festival’s history. The Burgenland Festival saw a decline in visitors this year, with seats remaining empty especially in the cheaper categories in St. Margarethen (90,000 visitors) and Mörbisch (120,000 visitors). The organisers speculated that the financial crisis could be a reason.
