Fall at the MuseumsQuartier is dedicated to new styles. Over 60 designers will send models strutting towards the camera flashes, selling at adjacent showrooms and side events, ending each day in the notorious after parties. Now in its fifth year, MQ Vienna Fashion Week has established itself as a landmark on Vienna’s social calendar, showcasing Austrian and guest designers.
Last year, MQVFW had over 10,000 visitors, a highlight for international trade professionals and a platform for young talents to get exposure. This year, the Austria faction has some newcomers, like "Anzüglich – organic and fair", a collection made entirely from certified organic cotton. The bold colors and elaborate designs were inspired by an ancient Inca city. The tent will fit 450 guests, 100 more than the year before, but potential buyers will still be able to try on and buy showpieces in quartier21.
The event organisers at CreativHeadz have assembled an eclectic mix of returning labels and fresh fashion-blood. Local designer Michel Mayer’s winter collection shows geometric shapes and graphic patterns creating a simple yet abstract look. Known for flattering waistlines, Callisti is taking on deep purple this winter. Many look forward to Mark&Julia, the designer duo that won last year’s Ringstrassen-Gallerien-Award. There will be over 15 designers from Eastern Europe. The event is always full whether to see French designer Juliet Imbert’s dresses knitted from recycled yarn or Tiberius’ avant-garde leatherwear. Be forewarned tickets go fast and VIP badges are limited.
