Greenpeace vs. Mochovce

Vienna Review

Despite the Supreme Court cancelling the permit to add two reactors to the Mochovce nuclear power plant in Slovakia, the construction process continues. "We are certainly not going to stop construction works at this point", a representative of the "Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic" (ÚJD) said.

Greenpeace have sued Slovakia, because they were not involved in the decision-making process to build the extension in 2008. The Supreme Court’s decision meant going back to the start for ÚJD – theoretically. A representative had a different interpretation of the court’s decision, stating that the decision didn’t imply that the construction couldn’t continue and that its completion was in the public interest. The Ministry of Economics agreed, stating that Greenpeace must have misinterpreted the court’s decision.
