Hofer supermarkets offer renewable energy contracts
Mar 13, 2013
In January, Hofer supermarkets began offering an energy deal with the Austrian sustainable power provider Oekostrom AG. Within three weeks, the 5,000 Hofer contracts sold out.
This limited offer was priced at €0.08 per kilowatt hour (kWh), and guarantees customers that rate through 2014. The contracts also include no basic fee for a minimum annual consumption of 3,000 kWh; ecological energy for a reasonable price.
Oekostrom’s sustainable energy is generated from 90% hydropower coming from Styria, Tyrol and Salzburg and 9% wind power in Lower Austria and Burgenland, and 1% comes from Austrian solar.
Austrian consumers’ response to the Hofer-Oekostrom alliance has urged Oekostrom to plan a follow-up offer with Hofer, because – according to reports – never before have so many Austrian households switched to another electricity provider so quickly.
Also, Hofer has currently switched its consumption to green electricity.
