The Minister of Culture of Kosovo confirmed that seven ancient artifacts have been returned to the region after being discovered unexpectedly during an investigation by German police.
Dating as far back as 4,000 BCE, the objects are believed to have been smuggled out of the country during the 1998-1999 war with Serbia and were meant for sale to private collectors.
They are among over 1,200 items that were relocated to Belgrade, and have finally been identified following an investigation that began in 2007. The ownership of the artifacts is still debated, as Serbia does not recognise Kosovo's declaration of independence in 2008.
