New Orleans meets Vienna

Renowned New Orleans jazz pianist Tom McDermott comes to Vienna. He will play at the Amerikahaus on 27 August at 18:30, at the Chilli Jazz Festival on 29 August at 17:00, and at Porgy & Bess on 30 August at 19:30.

One of New Orleans’ top piano players and composers, Tom McDermott developed his style from the tunes of ragtime and traditional jazz that thrived in the 1960s and 70s.  In the 1990s he recorded with The Dukes of Dixieland and in ’95 he co-founded the modern brass band the New Orleans Nightcrawlers. This year, the legendary producer Van Dyke Park has launched a Best of McDermott CD.

His love for Brazilian music, the Beatles, European classical sounds, and Duke Ellington is heard in his unique sound: a smooth mixture of wild New Orleans rhythm and harmonic sophistication.
