Klaus Albrecht Schröder will remain director of the Albertina through 2019, according to an announcement by Culture Minister Claudia Schmied. In position since 2000, his contract was set to expire in 2014.

Schröder has led the institution through several controversies, including the flooding of a storage area where important works like Albrecht Dürer’s The Hare were stored. The works remained undamaged but renovations were costly. And in 2012, Schröder complained of financial worries relating to energy costs, repairs and maintenance.
