Shaky Carinthian summer

Vienna Review
Sep 25, 2013

The Carinthian Summer looks back on a season with 14,000 visitors and an 88% capacity utilisation, peaked by a London Symphony Orchestra concert as a grand finale, but its future is unclear.

Subsidies have been cut and, according to Thomas Schlee, director of the music festival, talks with the federal government are still "open-ended", as are the talks with the state of Carinthia to come up with the money that is missing. Still, plans for the Carinthian summer 2014 – scheduled to take place between 12 July and 27 August – are already under way.
