Walk About

When you live abroad for a while, you sometimes stop noticing the differences between Vienna and your homeland – that is until you have visitors from home. When my parents visited recently, they found out the hard way how much extra walking is done in Vienna. Being from America – the Land of Cars – and from a small town, were strikes one and two. Strike three came when I took them on a walking tour of the centre. After an entire morning darting from Blutgasse to the Mölkerbastei, they were visibly beat.

"Will there be as much walking in Bratislava tomorrow?" my mother asked.

No, I assured her, there wouldn’t be. And then mentally cancelled the stroll up to the Pressburger Schloss we had planned for the following afternoon.
