Sylvia
Ballet from Manuel Légris to Louis Mérante. Vienna State Ballet. Conductor: Rhodes Ch: Légris M: Delibes B/K: Spinatelli
Ashley Taylor
Ballet director Manuel Legris choreographs his ensemble through the three-act ballet "Sylvia", first performed in 1876, in opulence and joyful lust. A moonlit clearing forms the backdrop for the hustle and bustle. Virtuoso ensemble scenes and strong solos let you stay with the overflowing story. First of all Nikisha Fogo, dancer of the demanding title character, who was appointed first solo dancer for her performance after the premiere. This Sylvia, nymph of the hunting goddess Diana, stretches out her admirer with bow and arrow in response to his advances. This displeases Eros, the god of love, who revives the stretched out shepherd who saves Sylvia from the "black hunter" Orion. Fine classical-romantic ballet to Léo Delibes' music!
