Michael Kiwanuka

The British singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Kiwanuka is increasingly becoming the soul artist of his generation. Born in London in 1987 as the son of Ugandan immigrants, he started out in guitar bands, then studied jazz, worked as a studio musician and landed on the BBC's hype list in early 2012. The debut album "Home Again", released soon afterwards, lived up to these premature praises; his third album "Kiwanuka" is the masterpiece so far: Atmospherically inspired by the heyday of the genre some 50 years ago, it does not seek its salvation in retro sounds and pure copyistism. Psychedelic, folk, contemporary elements - there is plenty of room here, always carried by Kiwanukas strong voice.
