How did the imperial house actually deal with epidemics? This question is the focus of the show "Masks and Epidemics at the Vienna Court 1500-1918". Paintings, graphics, coins and various costumes and masks are used to demonstrate how the imperial house tried to protect itself against plague, smallpox and the like, and what other uses masks were put to (e.g. carnival, tournaments).
