Anna Mabo

(A) - Albumpräsentation "Notre Dame"

Born Anna Marboe in Vienna in 1996, she learned theatre directing not just anywhere, but at the Max Reinhardt Seminar. She is also a musician, in this role she renounces two letters of her surname and becomes Mabo. Loveliness with sneaky overtones meets the desire for the unconventional and the lampooning. The debut "Die Oma hat die Susi so geliebt", published by Bader Molden in autumn 2019, was still a little too humorous and tended to be at home on the cabaret stage. With the follow-up "Notre Dame" Anna Mabo now has a band at her side and the rock stage in sight, which is good for her songs. Great, for example, how "Die Leichtigkeit" rises right at the beginning from a songwriter piece into psychedelic staggering. Skilfully combining melancholy and cheerfulness, Mabo scores with dignified, yet never cramped original lyrics, which easily reconcile great thoughts and great mental leaps. "They explained to me how the tides work, but I never really understood it," they say, "I know you put Bepanthen on your wounds, but Bepanthen doesn't help with melancholy."
