The Notwist
(D)

Gerald von Foris
Hailing from Weilheim and now based in Munich, The Notwist are a small universe unto themselves. The outward climax of a career the musicians never really set out to achieve came in 2002 with the album "Neon Golden". At a time when guitar rock and electronic elements were just coming together, it hit a nerve and went through the roof. For a German indie band, 150,000 records sold was an incredible number. To this day, the work is considered one of the best albums of the noughties.
This success did not impress the brothers Markus and Micha Acher, who are the constants in The Notwist. A telecommunications company subsequently offered them 750,000 euros to use a song in advertising. They turned it down. In the long run, it was good for the band to continue playing by their own rules instead of falling into the clutches of the entertainment industry.
After a hiatus, which they filled meaningfully with side projects, theater and film scores, The Notwist returned highly vital in early 2021 with the album "Vertigo Days." Now they finally get to showcase the music live. And it has worked out so happily that they are playing their first two concerts at the Volkstheater. A world premiere in Vienna.
