The occasion for Lars von Trier's dane Nazi saga in Cannes was this great melodrama about cosmic as well as human catastrophes: Even on the day of her wedding, depression gnaws at Justine (Dunst). The party gets out of hand, and the couple separates on their wedding night - the fact that the world will soon end due to a planetary collision is no surprise to Justine.
