The Rider

Joshua James Richards
After a rodeo accident, young Lakota cowboy Brady must come to terms with never riding again. Back home, on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, he searches for a new place and purpose in life. But Brady can't suppress his great talent with horses or his desire for freedom. So he follows the myth of the American West in a very personal way. For her second feature-length film, Chloé Zhao worked with amateur actors she met while shooting her debut "Songs My Brothers Taught Me" (2015). The young filmmaker's new work, "Nomadland" with Frances McDormand, is among the festival hits of 2020 and cleaned up at the Oscars. [Arte, through 5/25]
