The biopic about Karl Marx' youngest daughter, Eleanor Marx (1855-1898), is this year's opening film. After the death of her father, Eleanor takes on a difficult legacy: On the one hand, she must preserve his work, but on the other, she has ambitions of her own. As a socialist, she takes part in the workers' struggles, takes a stand against child labour and is one of the first to associate capitalism with the tyranny of men. But no feminist insight, however clear, saves her from failure in her private life - at the age of 43 she commits suicide. Nicchiarelli also looks to the future in her film: Does a line from Eleanor lead to the punk rebels? A question suggested by the score of "Miss Marx", and a great dance performance out of time towards the end.
