Jacob Yi (Steven Yeun) decides to move his family from Los Angeles to a small farm in Arkansas. While he sees the wild Ozarks as the promised land, his wife, Monica (Yeri Han), with whom he once immigrated to the U.S. from Korea, and their children feel alien in their new home. Money is tight, and the household sags. The arrival of Monica's unconventional mother Soonja (Yuh-Jung Youn) is supposed to bring relief to the isolated Yis. Director Lee Isaac Chung was inspired by his own childhood memories for this small, multi-layered and brilliantly acted drama about departure and arrival, family relationships and cultural identity.
