John has lived with his father's rage for as long as he can remember. Even in his old age, Willis makes no secret of his abhorrence of his openly homosexual son's lifestyle. As an adult, John has completely distanced himself from his father's masculine role model, but when Willis begins to suffer increasingly from dementia, he takes him in to live with him in California, despite the painful memories of his childhood and youth. With the "dual role" of directorial debutant and leading man, Viggo Mortensen may have bitten off more than he can chew, but Lance Henriksen as the evil old man has his strongest role here since the androids Bishop and Bishop II in the "Alien" sequels.
