The Pinzgau mountain farmer's son Franz Streitberger - the filmmaker's great-grandfather - grew up as a farmhand with a large farmer and joined the military in 1937, the day he came of age. An orphaned little fox becomes his best friend and travels hidden in the sidecar of Franz, who is promoted to a dispatch driver, first from Poland to France and finally a little way towards the Eastern Front. Halting kitsch.
