Rauch Juice Bar

Review

The juicy V-man

We could probably go on presenting new snack bars all year round. But we won't, don't worry, just this one more time, because it's interesting for several reasons: first of all, because the Vorarlberg fruit juice bottler (domestic market leader in iced tea with branches all over Europe) Rauch is now doing something it doesn't normally do, namely preparing fresh fruit and vegetable juices; and because it is doing this with a pilot project in Vienna, in Neubaugasse - young, child-rich, organic, green, small-scale - which is somehow also a statement.
Rauch moved into an old, beautiful glove and bag store with an eye-catching green façade, and even had the old giant letters rebuilt to display RAUCH in large, golden letters. Wooden floors, industrial lighting and a glassed-in cabinet where fruit and vegetables are chilled give the place an office feel, while the rear area is more of a lounge. But action is the order of the day, with drinks being prepared live in front of everyone's eyes and ears. In other words, you first choose from 14 juices/smoothies and six shakes at the bar, which is not so easy because the names of the drinks are really extra-depp, "Hartbeat", "Popeye" (ah, with spinach!), "Soft Skin", "Kick Start" and the like, and you can't immediately imagine what they mean, so "Happy Hangover" - with beetroot, lime, basil and apple because of the many red polyphenols and anthocyanins for the blood - and a sandwich called "California". Then the fruit and vegetables go into the blender, juicer or squeezer, as the case may be, and it crunches and grinds and doesn't necessarily sound pretty. When it's ready, a young woman from Vorarlberg shouts the name of the drink you've ordered into the room, which is difficult once again because you've long forgotten the fantasy name and it sometimes sounds completely different in Alemannic ... But it works anyway, Happy Hangover was really very red, but also very good, it has to be said (€ 3.85). The toasted sandwich can be completely forgotten, highway rest stop level (€ 4.85). And I wasn't really happy with the "Berry Rendezvous" shake either, mainly because the mauve-colored, sluggish mass didn't want to go through the straw, only tasted cold and formed an icy lump in my stomach (€ 3.85). As a consolation or bonus or for whatever reason, we then had a cup of "Vitaminator" (kiwi, ginger, apple, strawberry), which was again pretty cool, perhaps even cooler with chili. The coffee, by the way, comes from the Red Bull subsidiary "Afro Kaffee" and is pretty okay. The snacks, however, still need more work. Summary: Austria's iced tea market leader has opened a bar where fruit and vegetables are juiced à la minute and irritatingly named. Rauch Juice Bar 7th, Neubaug. 13, Mon-Fri 8-20, Sat 9-19,
