And when I'm not here ...
Photo: Katharina Gossow Then I'm on the sun deck. I am, I am, I am. Or in the solarium." A visit to the gem that is Sonnendeck on Petersplatz is a great way to avoid the latter - provided the sun is shining and you can get a seat at the open-air bar in the crowds. The summer pop-up of the beautiful bar in Singerstrasse is a magnetic attraction for barflies who are not shy of the light and for young and old scene people; long queues on the street are the rule rather than the exception. But once you reach the top, you are rewarded not only with a view that is second to none - all the church domes are within your grasp, the distant view is amazing anyway - but also with bar culture and design at its best. Industrial designer Ben Toth, who has already created a unique mix of Art Deco and English gentlemen's club in the Kleinod main building using the finest materials such as leather, onyx, brass, wood panelling and crystal patterns, has also given the sun deck (mobile) bar furniture that is elegant, classic and modern at the same time.In terms of ambition, the young team on the roof of the Erste Bank building is in no way inferior to that in the home base: The predominantly bearded gentlemen look good and radiate good humor. Not just outside. Inside, in the almost completely glazed area, there is also a bar and a lounge with a few comfortable Chesterfield-style leather armchairs, from where you can chill out and watch the crowds on the terrace or (with neck contortions) watch relevant films on a screen - such as Mickey Rourke as Bukowski's "Barfly" Henry Chinaski. But you can also grab a bite to eat, for example. IKI is responsible for the rooftop location's culinary offerings with its Asian fusion dishes created by the makers of Mochi. However, the offer still stands out very positively from what is offered as "bar food" in many places. Steamed edamame with fresh horseradish and sea salt (€ 4.70) is a wonderful alternative to potato chips, peanuts or wasabi nuts, while braised pork belly with pickled cucumber, rocket and yuzu kosho mayo (€ 5.90) is a great alternative. The IKI Summerbowl, consisting of rice, fine herb salad, pickles and orange-ponzu dressing, is served in a cardboard bowl with a choice of tofu (€ 6.60), salmon (€ 7.20) or roast beef (€ 6.90) and, like the pork belly, is available from Monday to Friday. On Saturday, there is nigiri and sashimi of salmon, tuna, gilthead bream, mackerel or avocado (€ 1.90-2.60/piece) or the maki rolls "Spicy Tuna" (€ 7.80) or "Hot Salmon" (€ 7.20). For afterwards, chocolate mousse with raspberries (€ 4.80) on all days. Summary: chic rooftop location with really great drinks, delicious Asian snacks and a great view.
